The Firms for Food concept was started in the spring of 2008 by attorney Alesia M. Vick. Mrs. Vick wanted to see a combined effort by legal professionals to help the local community. After watching a news report about the diminishing summer food inventory at a local food bank and the reduction in donations, she pondered the idea of sponsoring a large-scale food drive. Mrs. Vick began seeking other local attorneys, who immediately bought into the concept. Currently Firms for Food serves the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina by organizing a planned summer and winter food drive called the Firms for Food Challenge. This challenge seeks to involve legal professionals in the process of giving back to the community by raising food and monetary donations for local food banks.
In the near future, the Firms for Food concept will expand service to other North Carolina communities. Mrs. Vick envisions the Firms for Food Challenge reaching the national level, where firms and legal professionals across the nation will join the effort in "Making a case against HUNGER".
